Have you always wanted to learn how to print onto paper or fabric? Want to customize greetings cards, home goods, wallpaper or textiles? Learn how to block print a pattern with your own custom stamp in this 2 hour class. 

Nancy has been working as a pattern designer for six years. She studied Surface Pattern Design at university and since graduating she has designed repeating patterns for clients like Marks & Spencer, Tommy Hilfiger, Debenhams and Graham and Brown Wallpaper. 

In this class, we'll start by talking through ideas and inspiration. You'll start with a simple design on paper, carve it to create a stamp, and finally print it onto a product of your choice such as greetings cards, tea towels or tote bags. Throughout each step textile designer Nancy Straughan will guide you through the block printing process so you can easily learn how to begin printing patterns.

Nancy will provide you with a printed booklet containing all the information covered in the class. If you'd like to it's a good idea to bring your laptop so you can follow along with each step. 

If you have one please bring a laptop with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator installed, you can download free trials of these online. If you don't have these simply bring a notebook and jot down the information from the class to use later.

Please note to take part in this class it is preferable (but not essential) to have already scanned in some of your drawings onto your laptop. If you can't do this you can just watch each step and make notes instead!

Join illustrator Emma Block and Textile Designer Nancy Straughan for an inspirational afternoon learning how to create your own repeat patterns. During the workshop Emma and Nancy will teach you how transform your ideas into seamless, repeating patterns for use in countless projects. You will be taught everything you need to know including:

About Your Tutors

Nancy Straughan is a textile designer and has her own range of homeware, stationery and accessories. She studied Printed Textiles and Surface Pattern design at university and set up her homeware and textile company after graduating. Nancy's clients include Marks and Spencer, Tommy Hilfiger, Debenhams and Graham & Brown wallpapers.

Emma Block is a freelance illustrator working across a broad range of industries, from publishing and licensing, to branding and packaging. She has worked with clients including Random House Canada, Bloomsbury, Stylist magazine and TimeOut. She approaches pattern design from an illustrative and painterly perspective.

Block printing has been practiced for hundreds of years and Nancy will make it easy for you to achieve a set of traditionally printed napkins to take home with you. You will have a chance to mix your own professional fabric paint and learn how to build a beautiful printing block that to achieve a similar look to Indian block printed fabrics. This really is a fantastic class where you learn skills that will really inspire you to get creative with printing.

You will learn how to carve and print lino stamps to create lots of personalised stationery and other paper products. You will be taught how to design a perfect stamp to print with and you will be able to create personalised greetings cards, envelopes and tags.

You will be able to take your stamps home the end of the class to use on lots more projects. Everything you will need is provided but feel free to bring along any extra paper items you would like to print on. This class is suitable for beginners and those with no creative experience whatsoever.
