The Best Old Movies

This weekend I got some new bedding and the most cosy and squidgy duvet ever (more on that later) and all I wanted to do today was stay in bed and watch movies. Sadly I have work to do so I managed to drag my bum out of bed and head out the house. I don't think there's anything better than watching old films in bed especially if you've just popped on fresh bed linens.

So today I thought I would write down the ultimate list of my favorite old fashioned movies. Hopefully there's something for everyone here, crime, drama, comedy and just downright silly. Films like these remind me of being with my Grandma on Sunday afternoons eating too many cupcakes.

How to Marry a Millionaire - "Three women set out to find eligible millionaires to marry, but find true love in the process." Lauren Bacall is a bad ass and Marilynn is totally adorable. 

Rebecca - "A self-conscious bride is tormented by the memory of her husband's dead first wife." This is my favorite film of all time, you have to watch it!

The Best of Everything - "An expose of the lives and loves of Madison Avenue working girls and their higher ups." A little like Mad Men but more kitsch. 

Casablanca - "Set in Casablanca, Morocco during the early days of World War II, an American expatriate meets a former lover, with unforeseen complications." Basically the perfect film.

Vertigo - "A San Francisco detective suffering from acrophobia investigates the strange activities of an old friend's wife, all the while becoming dangerously obsessed with her." This is suuuper long but also super good so definitely worth watching. 

Murder on the Orient Express - "When his train is stopped by deep snow, detective Hercule Poirot is called on to solve a murder that occurred in his car the night before." Good old Poirot, can't go wrong with Poirot

Rosemary's Baby - "A young couple move into an apartment, only to be surrounded by peculiar neighbours and occurrences." One of my favorite horror films. I have a necklace very similar to Rosemary's... that's how big a fan I am.

Chinatown - "A private detective hired to expose an adulterer finds himself caught up in a web of deceit, corruption and murder." Faye Dunaway is such a babe, enough said.

Meet me in St Louis - "In the year before the 1904 St Louis World's Fair, the four Smith daughters learn lessons of life and love, even as they prepare for a reluctant move to New York." This film makes me want to have lots of daughters and dance around the living room.

Fantasia - "A collection of animated interpretations of great works of Western classical music." This was released in 1940. Disney, sometimes you blow my mind. 

Muppets Take Manhattan - "Kermit and his friends go to New York to get their musical on Broadway only to find it's a more difficult task than they anticipated." Ok so it's not really an old film but I still love it.

To Catch a Thief - "When a reformed jewel thief is suspected of returning to his former occupation, he must ferret out the real thief in order to prove his innocence." One of the better "funny" Hitchcocks, plus you get to see Princess Grace wearing a crazy gold dress.
