Our Bedroom Re-Design with West Elm

Ad - This post is a gifted collaboration with West Elm.

When Simon and I moved into this flat we knew the master bedroom had so much potential, it was the main reason I fell in love with this place. After living in a very small London flat and then living at my mum’s house for six months, it felt amazing to suddenly have space! I felt quite daunted by having a large bedroom to decorate but I knew the general feeling I wanted it to have. I got in touch with West Elm to see if they could help me bring my vision to life.

I’ve always really loved the style of furniture on offer at West Elm and I feel a bit of a connection with the brand and I used to style their press dinners back when I lived in London. I was so excited to work with them again for our bedroom project. I knew I wanted to create a really calming, mid-century room and the Design Crew service really helped me explore that plan. I was put in touch with one of West Elm’s amazing interior designers to make the most of their free interior design services, this is something anyone can do and I highly recommend it.

I began the design journey by putting together a mood board which you can see above. This shows the colour palette, general vibe and a few of the West Elm pieces I really liked. You don’t have to make your own mood board but I always love the process!

After having a chat on the phone and sending through some phone snaps of the room I was sent a really in-depth PDF which covered all the suggested changes like the room layout, furniture options, and decorative pieces. I wasn’t expecting to see such a well thought out presentation as it’s a free service. Here are a few of the slides I was sent, you can tell how well thought out the PDF was.

I then edited the suggested pieces to reflect what we needed in the room, it was important to me to have some control and have fun doing some of the shopping. Not much needed to be changed and it was wonderful to have all my opinions heard whilst still sticking to the design vision.

I hope you’ll agree that the room turned out so beautifully. It reminds me of a mid-century style hotel with a few small boho touches to warm it up. I can’t tell you how nice it is to walk into such a calm space in the evening, especially after I day looking after a toddler! Simon and I love reading our books, and I love styling up the chest of drawers and side tables each season. We feel very lucky indeed.

Here are a few photos and a short video tour of our beautiful new bedroom.

I love how the sunlight streams in through the window and brings out the warmth in the room.
