How to Style the Perfect Celebration Table

Yesterday I styled a festive table, just for fun. I rarely get to do styling for myself these days as all my working hours are usually set aside for my photography clients. Not complaining at all though as I love my job! However, I really enjoyed spending some time just having a festive faff. Here are my tips to help you create the perfect celebration table.

Simple tips to create a beautiful table

How to style your celebration table this Christmas

I know that styling a special table can seem like a really daunting task but if you do a bit of planning and follow these tips you’ll soon get in the swing of things. By next Christmas you’ll be styling like the professionals!

In a nutshell, I use my 3 Ps!

Plan. Prep. Make it pretty!

  1. Take some time to plan it out. Get everything out and lay them on the floor. Think about your colours and textures. What food are you serving? Do you have all the cookery and glassware that you need? Get out napkins, write out placecards, and ready your crackers or other table decorations.

2.Build up your table in layers. The fist thing to add it obviously the tablecloth, then the any greenery, I’ve used a garland but even some bud vases or wintry fruit dotted along the centre of the table will look lovely. Next add the crockery, and then glassware.

3. Napkins! Now’s the time to bring in your napkins, these can be simply folded, tied into relaxed knots, folded into envelope shapes, whatever you feel like doing. Take a look at these napkin ideas below from Martha Stewart.

4. Time to add all the decorative touches like candles and crackers. This is the really fun bit, all the pretty things will really add some personality to your table. Think about your colours and theme. Will you add traditional placecards? Colourful Christmas Crackers? Tealights or tapers? Maybe little posies of dried fruit and flowers like me. I also added these really sweet baskets to hold crackers which I bought from Rowen and Wren.

5. Take a really good look at your table and check it all over. Does each place setting have everything that it needs? Is everything straight and looking just the way you want it too? Take ten calm minutes to just check the table over before your guests descend on the table!

I hope this post has inspired you to style a beautiful table this Christmas. Let me know if you have any questions!
