A Most Curious Wedding Fair
Last week I popped along to the Most Curious Wedding Fair with my good friend Victoria who is one of my bridesmaids. I was so glad I took her along as I ended up feeling pretty overwhelmed by all the beautiful wedding related products and services that were on display. Vicky and I spent a good two and a half hours wondering around in total awe at the gorgeous displays. It was also wonderful to directly talk to the suppliers and discuss their processes and creative business.
There's something about the wedding business that seems to attract the most creative and friendly people, it really makes a huge difference when you're able to meet face to face with the people involved in the wedding. We both had a wonderful evening and I left feeling really inspired and excited to continue my wedding planning. Keep reading to see my top pics from the event. I really suggest you pay a visit to one of the many fairs that Most Curious run all over the country.
About the Fair
Most Curious describe themselves as an alternative wedding fair, the perfect option if you're trying to escape all the commercial nonsense that seems to go along with weddings these days. Personally, I have visited the largest wedding shows in the country and although I think they'd be perfect for a lot of brides they felt very similar to one another. To me, your wedding day is all about your own individual style, there is no need for any cookie cutter weddings!
The beautiful cakes above were made by Lucie Bennett who collaborated with her florist friend Lady Lissy for the stand. The tiered apple cake in particular was so gorgeous. I loved the way they styled their creations, relatively simple, effortless looking and lots of natural foliage, fruit and smattering of florals. I have plans to decorate my own wedding cake in a very similar way with rosemary, pears and green figs.
When walking into the fair we were greeted by a neon signage and pink velvet curtains. Swoon.
These absolutely stunning lace wedding dresses by Minna caught my eye as soon as we walked into the space. I'm a huge fan of 1970s vintage style dresses and seeing all the crochet and bell sleeves got me very excited. Even though I bought my wedding dress almost a year ago I still absolutely love looking at gowns, it's probably my favourite part of any wedding. I don't think I'll ever get bored of looking at wedding dresses!
I really loved the wedding stationery and maps designed by Lucy Says I Do. I also really wanted to take that 1960s sideboard home with me! Lucy's work is a perfect example of how modern day stationery can be inspired by vintage styles without it looking to contrived. Perfectly feminine with a touch of retro design.
It will soon be time for Simon and I to meet with our jeweller and design our wedding bands. Simon met up with Gee Woods a few times in secret to design a bespoke engagement ring for me, he couldn't have chosen a more perfect ring. Even though we have our jeweller it sorted I still love looking at other designer's work. Amanda Li Hope designs ethical jewellery which I think perfectly suits the modern bride.
Matilda Delves stand really caught my eye, possibly because of all the green and the sheepskin rug, but more importantly because of her beautiful photography work. I love the way that she captures intimate moments between couples without it looking cheesy. Luckily, we have a family friend photographing our wedding. It's so important that your big day is captured by someone who can reflect your relationship perfectly without the it being cringey.
Brush lettering and calligraphy is so popular these days, especially with regards to wedding stationery. If you're looking for a hand lettered effect for your wedding invites I think that the Lola & Blush collections would be a perfect brand to look at. Not only was Rebecca's stand absolutely gorgeous (and included a very clever at IKEA hack) but her work was also really beautifully designed. In particular I really loved her gold metallic lettering on the green envelope below.
Yet more fruity cakes, can you tell I like fruit on my cake? This time by Blossom and Crumb, not only do they produce relaxed natural cakes but they had an amazing array of crystal and marble inspired cakes too. I really liked how they had a dark grey cake, very moody and impactful.
I spotted an absolutely beautiful floral room set designed by The Wild Fox. The reason the stand caught my eye was the great decision to use pale blush with dark grey, and of course I absolutely loved the furniture which looked like it was from the 70s. I really loved the decision to use a lot foliage and those gold candlesticks with the pale pink candles looked wonderful against the dark wall.
The Geo Fleur x Clare Nicolson collaboration worked perfectly in the large open space of the Truman Brewery, a partnership made in cool girl heaven. If you're looking for some contemporary and unusual event styling for your wedding I think these guys would be a great pair to consider.
Papier offer a huge selection of wedding stationery so it's pretty much guaranteed that you'll find something perfect for your big day. Alongside their in-house designers they also collaborate with many really talented illustrators to help design their beautifully made personalised stationery. My particular favourites were the Emma Block floral designs the marbled collection and the abstract watercolour invites.
I was blown away by the beautiful headpieces on the Tilly Thomas Lux stand. After many minutes of trying on everything in site I selected my favourite piece which was a beautiful crystal star headband. Sally's pieces really reminded me of the glamor seen in the art deco period, which is something that is heavily inspiring my own wedding. I am incredibly tempted to pick up one of her headpieces, even though I had no intention of wearing anything like that on my big day I just can't resist!
I had a lovely chat with Graeme from Bloom and Burn about all things Instagram and weddings. When I finally got around to taking a few photographs of his beautiful relaxed table scape I noticed the beautiful vintage bottles and suspended flowers. It was really lovely to talk to someone who sounded as excited about my wedding flowers as I am! After chatting to him I can't wait to meet with my florist again back up in Newcastle and discuss all my ideas.
Daisy Sheldon's work was the last stand I managed to have a proper look at before I left for the evening. I was blown away by her delicate and meticulous embroidery. The pale pink veil is absolutely stunning. I would be too worried that I'd ruin it to wear it, but, it would make such an unexpected addition to a wedding gown.
I had an absolutely wonderful time at the fair and I highly suggest you go next year even if you're not getting married!
