Refresh Your Bedroom For Spring

Image from Avenue Lifestyle
With regards to interiors, to me spring time is all about de-cluttering, simplifying and brighting. I've been feeling so inspired by all the light and clean bedrooms I've been spotting in magazines and on Pinterest lately. I think it's time for a spring clean in the Straughan - Hacking household! I've collected my favourite images together and written up my tips to help refresh your bedroom for spring.

All Images From my Interiors Pinterest Board

Personally, I always opt for simple bedding. My sheets, pillows and duvets are all plain and I have a few cosy wool blankets I throw on if the weather is colder. I love natural linen bed sheets but as those are pretty hard to find I also really enjoy sleeping on soft brushed cotton. At the moment we have a stone coloured set and a dark grey. To lift the bed area and make it look a little fresher for spring I suggest a pale blanket or bedspread. The soft weave design on this bedspread from Yorkshire Linen has just the right amount of patterned quilting to add a layer of texture without looking too fussy.

Nothing says spring quite like flowers, the bouquets above are from Bloomon which is a pretty handy subscription floral service. If you don't want to commit long term just pop along to your local florist and pick up a bunch of seasonal blooms. I personally love house plants so I have collected quite a few plant babies over the years, they really help brighten up our flat.

If having real plants in your bedroom is too much responsibility for you maybe a botanical print is more your style? This house plant print by Hartland Brooklyn would be a great option if you're not so green fingered. Art in general is a great way to brighten up your space but opting for a floral design will really shout spring.

Now winter is over it's time to move on from the sheepskin and thick wool rugs onto a flat weave like traditional kelims. I'd really like to replace our tired sheepskin that we have with an abstract or geometric rug to bring in some more pattern. This kelim from Ferm Living has a fresh blue triangular design which will inject a little zing to your bedroom without the use of bright colours.

And finally, possibly the easiest why to brighten and lighten up your bedroom for spring is to hang up a mirror. This round brass one from West Elm with also add a little warmth to the room. Dress the area around the mirror with a few scented candles, a bouquet of flowers and a pretty catch-all dish for a touch of springtime styling.

I hope I'm not alone when I say that at this time of year I am itching to have a big sort out and get organised! I have a huge urge to go through everything in the flat and get rid of anything we don't need. Simon and I did that last year and it felt amazing! The best shop to purchase storage and organisation items has to be Muji, I think a shopping trip is in order.

I watched a hugely inspiring film the other day called  Minimalism: A Documentary About the Important Things on Netflix. Please, please watch it! I thought I knew quite a lot about minimalism already so I popped it on thinking that I wouldn't get much out of it, but boy was I wrong. Not only is the film about the minimalist movement but it also touches on the themes of happiness, freedom and fulfilment. It's the perfect thing to watch in the spring.

I hope you found these tips useful and enjoy refreshing your bedroom this spring!
